The Story Behind The Shop

Hi everyone! My name is Peyton and I'm the "owner" of Distressed Out / @glorifiedvintagegirl on Instagram. For those who don't follow my gossip account, I have an account called @glorifiedgossipgirl, where this unique name originated. That gossip account blossomed after I suffered a fall from a window at a very low point in my life at an attempt to take my life. I miraculously survived this, and it changed my life. I broke spinal levels L1-L5, burst L3, pieces of bone in my spinal cord, a disc in L5-S1 spinal canal, and I broke my heel. I had emergency surgery within five minutes in the trauma room, a spinal fusion and a laminectomy. Picture a real life Grey’s Anatomy moment. I was in the hospital for about three weeks. I couldn't walk, stand, or moved minimally because of my heel and my extensive spinal injury. Before this fall happened, I was struggling in recovery from mainly alcohol and drugs. Alcohol nearly destroyed mentally, physically, and emotionally. I did some serious permanent damage to my body. I had a stroke, went into cardiac arrest, alcohol hepatitis of the liver, keto acidosis, kidney injury, and chronic pancreatitis. I was in and out of detoxes, probably 27 times, and went to rehabs, homeless shelters, and struggled greatly. When I entered my last institution, I only had one outfit and shoes with holes at the soles. I had to borrow clothes from the rehab, other patients, and patient’s parents brought me shoes and clothing to keep me warm that winter. When I went to a 3/4 house after one instance, I received donations from the house and roommates. I did not have a penny to my name nor did I have one visitor for the duration of this experience. This last part is very important, it began my love for thrift shopping. I got all of my furniture and clothing from thrift stores, bewildered by what I could find. Because of my health, I was not able to sustain a full time job. I always love to go thrifting, find vintage items, jam to music music, and change up clothes to make them unique! My followers persuaded me to start this, and assured me they would buy it after posting a story if anyone would be interested. Flash forward a year, and here we are! I have a passion for rebuilding my life, an amazing clientele base, helping others, and putting my creative spin into the world. I have always had an old soul, especially when it comes to music, so you will find numerous artists that will be hidden gems. So glad you found us!
